Sony VAIO notebooks with Blu-ray Disc Drive

Just over a year ago, Sony VAIO launched the world’s first notebook with an integrated Blu-ray Disc Drive complete with recording capabilities. Now the VAIO range of products is changing in readiness for the move to a High Definition future. With a Blu-ray Disc Combo Drive (BD ROM/ DVD+-RW/+-R DL/RAM Drive) or a Blu-ray Disc Drive (BD-R/-RE/-ROM/ DVD+-RW/+-R DL/RAM Drive) now present on a selection of notebook and Digital Home products, VAIO is opening up the door to High Definition for customers across Europe.

Sony has created a special range of Blu-ray Disc products to give people access to the new HD world in whatever form they want. The options range from Blu-ray Disc Players capable of outstanding HD audio-visual performance to notebook PCs powerful enough to edit and burn HD video content to Blu-ray Disc as well as serve as players in their own right. As High Definition becomes the new standard for video, Blu-ray Disc is increasingly visible as the natural medium for storing super-size HD content. From Hollywood movies to personal HD video captured on an HD Handycam, Blu-ray Disc will hold it all.

Sony EX1 high definition camcorder

Sony hosted the European launch of the latest addition to its XDCAM family of tapeless acquisition tools with the launch of the exciting new XDCAM EX compact camcorder. In addition to the existing XDCAM HD optical disc-based products, the XDCAM EX camcorder, the Sony PMW-EX1, offers all the benefits of tapeless workflow, selectable bit rates and outstanding picture performance that users have come to expect with XDCAM HD, coupled with new creative recording features and lens features which will redefine the standard for the professional compact camcorder market.

Sony Alpha A700 Preview

The new Sony Alpha A700 was launched during a Sony press conference in Italy. Unfortunately, the surprise element was lost because one day earlier the Alpha introduction was disturbed by a leak caused by Sony. The Sony Alpha 700 is Sony’s second digital SLR camera that has to contribute to a continuously compiling series of SLR cameras, with which Sony manifests itself as renowned DSLR manufacturer. The Sony DSLR A700 is a digital SLR camera which is positioned in the middle segment, and with that, has to compete (heavily) with the new collection of Canon and Nikon D-SLR cameras, among others. During my stay in Italy, I had the chance to work with the Sony A700 for a short period.
